Calendars I Use

Getting your hands on the best Calendars

I fell in love with Hawaii on our very first family trip.  It was during the Thanksgiving holiday.  My first Hawaii calendar was a Christmas gift that very same year.  It was one of those large wall calendars that had an incredible picture on the top portion and the actual calendar month on the bottom.  Even as I write this blog post, I can look to my immediate right and take in the vibrant blue Pacific waters crashing on Onomea Bay on the Big Island, Hawaii.  It's NOT as good as being there, but it's still good for my heart and my head.  I'm daily reminded of some of the best times with those I love and cherish most.

Calendars like this can be sort of an escape from the mundane and all the daily routines that crowd creativity and relaxation.  On the flip side, they have typically connoted deadlines, appointments, and schedules for me and most.  Actually, that's what the more up-to-date Google Calendar that I use does for me.  And I like my Google Calendar a lot.  But it's not the same as an excellently printed paper calendar.  One leans on the functional, utilitarian side.  The other on the aesthetic, sensory side.

Evolving Calendars

calendars It's pretty interesting to me what people have done with calendars over the years.  I know a few individuals who have saved their big wall calendars over the years sort of like a collection.  For them it's a keepsake.  But what started as just holding onto something has turned into something of value in some instances.  And these are being used as fund-raising, philanthropic tools, too!  Today, we've got firemen calendars, cheerleader calenders, and scene-specific calendars (like my Hawaii themed ones).  A quick search online shows over 47,000,000 results for the word calendars!

Obviously these are decent sellers still today even with all the digital options for calendars.  Take a look in the local bookstore on your next visit.  You're likely to see dog calendars, horse calendars, cat calendars, Italy calendars... the list seems almost endless.

So, here's my question:  Do you purchase a printed paper calendar each year?  If so, what kind?  Is it a wall calendar that you hang?  Is it a book style that you record appointments and such in?  What is your favorite theme?

Take a look at the old calendars at wiki here.

Below, I've posted a video that is a mother's ingenious idea using a calendar.  I hope you enjoy it ;-) and the thought behind it.
