Is it difficult to frame a print myself instead of taking it to a framer?
I don't need archival level framing, just for the print to look nice in the frame. What would I need? Frame, mat, print, what else?
No, it is not difficult to do good quality framing especially if you can afford to use pre-cut mats and standard frames. Frames are available in many standard sizes that are compatible with mats designed to fit the frame and mask a smaller size picture.

Get plain, acid free, mat board or foamcore to mount the picture onto then sandwich the picture between the backing board and a pre-cut mat. I use old fashioned photo corners to hold the pictures in place, then place the sandwich inside the frame. Photo corners are great because they stay in place well and do not require using any glue on the print. Plus it is easy to change or repair if something goes wrong.
Use tape mounting hinges or double sided tape to fasten the mat to the backing. Be sure that the tape and mats are acid free or "photo safe" because photos can deteriorate quickly if you do not minimize the contact with acidic materials.
If I use all pre-cut materials and standard frames I can mount a picture in 15-30 minutes.
When selecting frames try to find ones that come with non-glare glass and look for glass that is designated as Ultra Violet (UV) blocking or buy separate glass material and replace the cheap glass that comes with the frame.
